Stay Home, Stay Safe, Stay Connected

As I write this, we’re now in our forth week of ‘Lockdown’. We have all been asked to stay at home and only go out for essentials such as food, medication and exercise. This is indeed a trying time for us all. Our regular face to face meetings, classes and workshops in our community space have ground to a halt. This has not stopped us continuing our work in the community.

We believe we must find the positive where we can and today has been a lovely day. The sun was shining as we started the day with a wonderful Meditation session. Our first week we had four participants, this morning there was a full house as 13 of us showed up to take part in the online session via Zoom. Big thanks to Sis Aamasade for leading the meditation.

Keeping the Connection

Today the Tell It Family connected and we will keep this connection going.

I know some people are finding things hard and here at Tell It we want to be of service where we can. If you need help with anything from food supplies and paperwork to toys and activities for all the family, GET IN TOUCH NOW.

I’ll be hosting an online Drop-In session on Mondays between 2 -4pm. Please get in touch if you would like the link to join us on Mondays @ the online Drop-In or if you would like to join us for our Well Being Wednesdays online Meditation sessions at 11.30am. Stay safe & well.

Some of our sewing projects to date include: quilting; cushion making; table runners and personal repairs and alterations.

English Plus

Our project: English Plus is a series of weekly workshops that support the modelling, learning and use of the English language in an everyday context for ESOL participants (English for Speakers of Other languages).

The project aims to bring people together for a common goal of skills development & to foster stronger community links by facilitating a medium through which genuine
relationships can be forged. The project is an alternative introduction to formal study via a high-quality programme of community-based teaching & learning.

Activities are aimed at:

  • Improving confidence in listening & speaking, reading & some writing.

Key outcomes include:

  • Bringing people together from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Promoting a stronger sense of community
  • Contributing to people fulfilling their potential

Let’s Celebrate

On 9th July 2019, we were pleased to accept a #MyWestminster award for ‘Voluntary Contribution ti the Community’. This award was a welcome boost to acknowledge all our hard work in the last year spent settling into our new home.

This week, we decided to have a celebration lunch and we’re wearing some lovely T Shirts courtesy of one of our funders. Our weekly Drop In is Funded by People’s Health Trust using money raised by HealthHope through The Health Lottery.

The funding: Active Communities supports, people to create and shape local projects that will help their community or neighbourhood to become even better. Active Communities projects aim to develop social links and ties and support residents to discuss and act on things that are important to them. The Community Hub and Weekly Drop In is fast becoming an important part of many local people’s lives. Visit us one Monday…
